Violeta Parra - Run run se fue pal norte

for the vintage corner, this time I chose Violeta Parra. I realized we are so much focused on European and north American folk that we risk to miss the beauties of other places. You probably know her song Gracias a la vida, her last song before comming suicide.
Maybe now you’d want to discover more about her soulful work and life.

Peggy Sue - Watchman

This may be not ground breaking music, but all of the album that contains this song is worth to listening. Fossils And Other Phantoms is entertaining and never boring, and so I like it very much. Their new album is more on the rockish side though - listened just a few tracks, seems good anyway.

Melodica, Melody + Me - Ode To Victor Jara

I just found them, as just = 5 minutes ago, so this is a memo to myself to get back to them for more listenings. Are they catchy, aren’t they!

The Gentle Good - Balad y Confict

What to say. He plays and sings amazingly and he’s funny too. His first album, Tethered for the storm, is having great reviews and he got me enthralled by the combo of his voice and welsh language. I’ve learnt just a word so far: Diolch!
I can’t understand a word of most of his songs but that’s just the proof that music goes beyond language.

Micah Blue Smaldone - Row fisherman row

No clue on the title of this one - but I can’t stop to listen to it and bounce, which means it is good! The other one I can’t stop to listen to is The clearing. What I love especially about this video, that made me want to put it here even though there’s no song title, it’s the way he plays: with body and soul, and sometimes almost looking in pain. A true artist!

Later edit: found out the title of the song! this is a cover of Row fisherman row originally by The Congos - a raggae band. I must say, I prefer this version much better!

Sibylle Baier - Tonight

for the Vintage Corner, I have the pleasure to introduce you Sibylle Baier. She reminds me of Vashti Bunyan, but her story is even more amazing: she was a musician and actress, but never made a record for the public. She only recorded songs between 1970 and 1973 and then put them in a drawer, pursuing family life. But in 2006 her son made an album out of them, Colour Green, to give to family and friends; he also happened to give it to a label. The album was published and the success was great. A new album is expected to be out sometime soon.

Breathe Owl Breathe - Own Stunts

New charming discovery - listened to just two songs but it made me want more more more. The one that smitten me was Dragon but there’s no video for it, so I chose this one.

Ane Brun - Do You Remember

I’m all thrilled, a new Ane Brun album is coming next fall! She is among my absolute favourite musicians, I loved all of her albums so far and this preview of the next (title: It all starts with one) is awesome. and different. and awesome. I listened to it on the radio and I loved it right away - but didn’t recognize her XD There will be also a film using her music, for which I’m very curious about.
So now the countdown starts. I’ve another reason to wait for autumn (beside for the cooler weather :))

Matt Elliott - Il Galeone

just three words: Matt Elliott singing in Italian (ok five words, whatever). I’m enchanted by this, his pronunciation is almost perfect and this is so so so precious. love the song too, it’s a anarchic song on a tradititional theme; the lyrics are actually a poem wrote by a partisan.
i wish i could see him live, it must be quite an experience. have to keep hoping he’ll stop by Italy again soon, and possibly not that far away like last time!

PS. big thanks to the guy who made this video and other two where it was possible to get the magic of the concert <3
